Wendy Arthur, MD, FAAFP, a board-certified family practitioner, has over 18 years practicing and teaching traditional and alternative medicine. Her family believed in the innate healing of the body, and as a child she was exposed to Cherokee methods of herb use, such as dandelion. Since childhood the outdoors and water sports have been part of her holistic health maintenance. This passion for sports lead to taking electives in sports medicine in her residency at the University of Alabama in 1985-1987. Dr. Arthur is a national speaker on a variety of holistic health issues and is a published author and researcher.
Over 10 years ago Dr. Arthur developed chronic pain from a musculoskeletal problem called piriformis syndrome that is no longer present thanks to a hands on therapy called MFR or myofascial release, as taught by John Barnes, PT. This groundbreaking therapy resolved her pain, so she has taken extensive training with John Barnes, PT to help others. This approach can help heal old injuries and prevent new injuries from becoming a chronic problem. MFR offers a gentle approach for chronic neck and back pain, TMJ syndrome, carpel tunnel syndrome, sports injuries, headaches, and a variety of pelvic floor issues. Urinary incontinence/frequency, painful intercourse, and coccygeal pain respond to this therapy. As an MD she can release the internal restrictions that cause many of these symptoms.
